RESERVATÓRIO DA PASTELEIRA - MUSEU DO PORTO

"The unique space of this former water reservoir, with architectural renovation signed by Alexandre Alves Costa and Sérgio Fernandez and museographic project by João Mendes Ribeiro, was transformed into an archaeological station where three primary functions intersect — it is, simultaneously, a museum, a space of work and mediation and a living reserve where archaeological remains are kept.

Conceived as a labyrinth of time, in the sense that it is not organized in a linear or teleological way, the space of the Reservoir is structured around two axes: the first, horizontally, is topographical; the second, vertically, is stratigraphic.

The visitor is, therefore, invited to enter a machine for reading the city —here, reading must be understood in the broadest sense of the word, as it implies several of the perceptive faculties available to us: beyond, or below, vision, the touch, smell, listening, imagination, contemplation, meditation.

The Reservoir is, from a programmatic point of view, a permanently organic space, in which objects are not inert things, but links to the ways of thinking and doing of our ancestors. A Museum as a space for constant questioning, as a space for work and exchange, as a place for the production of knowledge and which stimulates creation. A place to welcome community and build community.

The Reservoir has a sound project by João Pais Filipe."
